Johannes Hand, Sr., and the School Board

ACCORD

A solemn Agreement made on the Twenty-first Day of January, in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty-two, between Johannes Hand, Sr., and the School Board--both parties in Lower Mohantongo Township, Schuylkill County, and State of Pennsylvania; Namely, to erect a School House.

Accordingly, Johannes Hand has offered and promised to the School Board eight Acres of Land for the building of a School House thereon.

This Land the School Board shall take at the place where Philip Braun and Johannes Hand lie continuous to each other, at the School Land.

From that corner, it shall be measured forty rods toward the mountain, and along the road, it shall be measured thirty-two rods, so that it shall contain eight Acres.

For which land Johannes Hand promises to give patented Deed, in this wise, since this said Land is not yet patented.

Accordingly, he agrees after he has made the Above Land free, he will give a free Deed out of his patented Deed to the School Board for said eight Acres.

So that it shall be kept for the use of the School House, Burial Garden [Cemetery], and Church, and the School Board, as it may be considered right and proper.

On the other hand, the School Board agrees with Johannes Hand to erect a School House on this Land, which the School Board promises to build in this wise:

If suitable timber can be obtained, it shall be built twenty-six by thirty-two feet, but only one story high, and it shall be divided into two rooms, with a kitchen in the middle between the two rooms.

Which we acknowledge on both sides with our Hands and our Seals that this shall be thus done, on the above named Day and Year, in the Presence of Witnesses.
