McDonald Family History

The progenitor of this line of American McDonalds arrived in North America sometime before 1876. How far before, a decade or generations, is not yet known. The year 1876 is arrived at through the birth of Arminta McDonald, who was born on US soil on May 9th of that year. Family stories, however, claim these particular McDonalds as original settlers into the Blue Ridge area.

As to the history of the McDonald surname or Scots-Irish immigration to America in general, there are countless records and histories written. Since I know so little yet about when my particular McDonalds came over, where they landed, the year, etc., I haven't included a summary. I'm sure anyone looking for information on their own American Scots-Irish family will easily find themselves drowned in the mad amount of information available. Be sure to bring a snorkel and happy swimming!

For those interested in quick fixes, a short history of the Scots-Irish of this area can be found on the Robinson page.
