| Charles Norman Merold was the son of Patrick (Pat) Merold and his
first wife, Stella Hand. He was born on September 07, 1899, in Tower
City, Pennsylvania. His family would later move to Akron, Ohio, where
he would attend North High. Charles Norman Merold married Donna Decker,
on September 10, 1930, at North Hill Evangelical Church in Akron.
As a married couple, Charles and Donna moved back to Pennsylvania,
this time Swathmore. Charles and Donna, with their daughter Mary Jane
in tow, often visited Akron and the family and friends left behind.
They would eat, drink, talk and play bridge while the kids romped.
In fact, Mary Jane, their daughter, is still remembered by some of
her Akron cousins, though only hearsay, of course, even as a child
Mary Jane rarely 'romped.' She preferred to sit and watch, and addressed
both her parents by their given names.
Charles N. Merold worked in a local rubber shop in Akron. Later,
while living in Pennsylvania, Charles worked for the United States
Postal System. Upon his retirement, Charles Norman returned to Ohio
to be closer to his family. He died in Akron, Ohio, on September
16, 1963, and is buried at the Rose Hill Burial Park, in Akron,
Ohio, with his family.
